We’ve decided that since we’ve been around fordonkey’s years a little while, we feel like we know a few things about hats, so we shall have to share some trivia with you.
So today shall be the first Lock & Co Trivia day
Lock Trivia 1: We invented the word Tweed.
For better or for worse an employee at Lock’s back in the day misread an order confirmation from a cloth mill up in Scotland for material that we would now call tweed, at the time all woolen cloth was referred to as Twill. Whoever sent this confirmation must have had less than impeccable handwriting and the poor lad read it as Tweed, the mill happened to be near the river Tweed so it didn’t seem too much of a stretch that they had renamed their thick woolen material. Anyway all orders started being made3 out for Tweed and the caps in the shop started to be referred to in this new way and eventually the thing caught on.
